The 2008/2009 Executive Members

Michelle Fung - President

Welcome to the Western Psychology Association or WPA for short! As a 4th-year Major in Psychology student, I'm very excited to serve as the President this year. I started out on the exec 3 years ago as 1st year rep, then VP Finance, and Vice President last year. The WPA is both a social and academic club which offers many resources, events, and different opportunities to be involved. Learn about the different areas of psychology, meet other psych students and profs, have some food and drinks at the Wine and Cheese, take part in various volunteer opportunities on the volunteer or social committees, and soo much more. We're here for you to so that school isn't all about lectures and readings, and to uphold Western's reputation of providing the best student experience! Feel free to contact us at wpaexec@westernpsych.net or through our Facebook group (search "Western Psychology Association") with any ideas/suggestions for events or questions. Looking forward to a great year!

Laura Ocolisan - Vice President

Hi everyone! As the WPA Vice President for the academic year of 2008-2009, I look forward to participating in the organization of entertaining and useful events for you, the WPA members. I am sure that my past experience as a WPA executive will contribute to the success of this year’s academic and social events. The Semiformal and the Christmas Gift Wrap are organized annually by the Vice President and this year will not be an exception. We are here to provide you with the information necessary for you to succeed as a psychology student, as well as to facilitate your contact with other exciting people in the field. I look forward to meeting you all!

Rebecca Merkley - Volunteer Coordinator

Hi! I'm in my fourth year of the honours specialization in psychology. I've been a member of the WPA every year that I've been at Western, and I'm super excited to be on the exec this year. Outside of school, I volunteer for the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario. I also teach soccer for the City of London and am captain of an intramural soccer team here at Western. I look forward to meeting you all at our social events! If you're interested in volunteering in the Psychology Resource Centre or for organizations in the community, feel free to contact me!

Vanessa Dolishny - Social Coordinator

Hi Everyone! I’m in my fourth year of an honours double major in psychology and sociology. After completing my undergraduate degree I plan on studying sociology or media studies at the graduate level. This is my 3rd year being part of the WPA and I am very excited to act as this year’s social coordinator! In previous years I have been active on the WPA volunteering in the PRC as well as being a part of the social committee. I believe that the WPA gives psychology students many great opportunities to meet other students with similar interests. This year I hope to plan many exciting events that will give both psychology students and professors the opportunity to interact outside of the classroom. I am truly delighted to be a part of the WPA exec for my fourth year at Western. I think that the WPA is great club for psychology students to get involved in. Over the years, it has provided me with the opportunity to meet other social science students, as well as give me valuable information about volunteer and academic opportunities related to psychology. I look forward to meeting all of this year’s new members. I hope to see you at all of our events!

Kris Bailey - VP Finance

Hey guys! I’m in 4th year double major in biology and psychology, and am all about psych these days. I originally started strictly in biology, but finally I decided to explore my interest in psychology during a summer course, and then started it as a major the following semester, which was just last year in ’07. Naturally then, last year was the first year I joined the WPA, and after attending nearly every event and getting a ton out of it, I decided I wanted to join the exec. So here I am, your VP Finance! Let’s make a good year out of this one!

Hannah Layton-Uzelac - VP External Marketing

Hi everyone! I'm a second-year student majoring in Psychology at Huron with a minor in Linguistics. I fell in love with psychology after taking it on a whim in first year. When I first heard about the WPA I knew I wanted to get involved, but at first I was mostly concerned with what I could get out of the club. It turned out to be a whole lot more than I expected, and after serving as First Year Rep last year I knew I wanted to do even more to give back. I am very excited to be this year's VP of External Marketing, and as an affiliate student I will be able to keep close connections with Brescia, King's and Huron. So come out to any events you can to meet new people, learn a few things, and have fun! Hope to see you soon!

Erin Lowe - VP Internal Marketing

Hi Everyone! I am currently in my third year at Western, and I’m in the Psychology Honours Bachelors of Arts program. After graduation I hope to attend graduate school in the clinical or social areas of psychology, but my plans change yearly. Although I have been a member of the WPA since my first year, this is my first year on the WPA exec and I’ll be maintaining this website and sending all the members of the WPA e-mails updating everyone about opportunities and events that the WPA is offering. Looking forward to meeting all of you!
